I am about to reveal something about myself that should be kept as a secret forever --
I buy my cards at the Dollar Tree for 50 cents each.
It's done, i've said it, the cat is out of the bag and i hope you don't think less of me for doing so.
The reason why i say this is b/c this has become a great money saver for us. When we first moved to the States almost 2 years ago i was quickly burdened by this "card culture" that i had never been exposed to in my life. (A little culture teaching moment: cards are extremely uncommon and barely used in Mexico. Just trying to find a thank you card is next to impossible.)
So, every time we had a birthday or an event or something, i would find myself spending about $2-$3 per card. An eureka moment came to me when 1. i discovered the Dollar Tree, and 2. i saw that they sold GREAT cards for much much much less.
So this is my strategy --
- I make a list of birthdays or events (such as mother's day, father's day, Easter, etc) that will be taking place in the next 3 - 4 months during which i will be needing a card.
- I make ONE trip to the Dollar Tree and buy all of them at once.
This ends up giving me a good 80% savings on something i was planning on doing anyway.

woa!! great tip!! Thanks - I needed this one. I've been looking for a place to buy cheap cards so I can keep up with family birthdays. Wal-Mart has them for $.99 but not much selection.
I buy bulk sets of cards. You can get assorted thank you's, birthday greetings, etc. I do end up getting like Mother's Day and Father's Day at Walmart or something though. Dollar tree is a good suggestion!
