Their numbers

Both kids had their year doctor's well check-up visit last week.
They both did very well.  Emma more than Byron, since she has a two-year advantage in knowing Dr. Miller for a little longer.

So here are their numbers--

Emma (on 8/22/14):

Weight-- 33 lbs (73%)
Length 38 in (74%)
BMI:  16.1

Byron (on 8/22/14):

Weight:  22 lbs (35%)
Length:  30 in (54%)
Head size:  18.5 in (66%)

Crayons

Emma loves to color!  She loves it even more when I color for her.  I am also beginning to wonder if she will be the first Morris grandchild who is left handed.  Her Poppa, Uncle Caleb and Daddy are all left handed.  I asked her doctor yesterday at her two-year appointment if there was a time when this became evident, and he said that as early as now we can begin telling which is her hand of choice.  Of course, this is still up in the air, but she does seem to use her left hand as her hand of choice.

I took this picture above because I think it showed a little about her perfectionist nature.  While I was busy elsewhere around the house, this child proceeded to break all her crayons in half and then line them up.

And on to her two-year doctor appointment:
Weight:  28 lbs 10 oz (75%)
Length:  35 inches (75%)
Head:  19 inches (75%)

I of course have to brag on my little girl.  Both the nurse and the doctor were very impressed with how well she behaved:
Nurse:  "Now mama, I want you to know this is not normal behavior for a 2-year old at the doctor."
Doctor:  "If all my patients were this good, my job would be much easier"

Yes, she is a sweet, sweet girl, even if I must say so myself :)
It did help that I had packed two cookies in her diaper bag and she knew she would get them after her appointment.

Nest

This is not the most flattering picture of my little girl, but it does the job!  I think Emma thinks she is a bird or something, because every once in a while, if I loose sight of her, I'll find her in the laundry room sitting on the clothes basket, as if sitting on her eggs, minding her own business.

A few new words we hear her say:  "bowl," "shoe," "chhhh" (for Cheeries), "moon," "chu chu" (for train), "Jo Jo" (for Uncle Joseph), and "beep beep" (as if imitating a car honking).

Of course, English continues to be her language of choice, but she has added a new word to her Spanish: "po po" (in reference to a B.M.).  We are trying to teach her to tell us she has done number 2 as soon as it happens.

She had her 15-month doctor's appointment last Monday.  Here are her numbers:

Weight:  23 lbs 1 oz (52%)
Length:  31 in (60%)
Head size:  18.5 in (80%)

12 months

We have come to the end of an era -- this is our last pictures with Johnny Bear.  We have taken a total of 13 pictures like this -- newborn through 12 months.  You can find all of those pictures under "Johnny Bear" on the bottom right of this page.

Emma had her 12 month check up yesterday and here are her numbers:
Weight:  21 lbs 6 oz -- 55%
Length:  29.5 in -- 50%
Head size:  18 1/8 in -- 70%

A few happenings:
*  Emma was weaned from breast milk completely last week.  She was on formula for a few days before switching completely to whole milk.  This has been a bit of a hassle since she is not too fond of it, but oh well.
*  She can sign for "milk", "more", "all done" and "bye bye" (she waved bye bye to Dr. Miller yesterday after her appointment.  I guess she was ready for him to leave the room, haha!).  We are working on "eat," "water," and "please."
*  Through the course of this past week, Emma has discovered temper tantrums.  Today she rolled around the floor screaming bloody murder because I had taken a bag filled with clothes away from her.  Needless to say, I am doing lots of praying and breathing during this time, making sure to stay calm and stick to my guns while at it.

The doctor says...

Emma had her 9 month doctor's appointment today.  She was her usual sweet, sweet self during her checkup, and even waved the receptionist goodbye when we left.

And her numbers are --

Weight:  19 lbs 13 oz (70%)
Length:  27.5 in (50%)
Head size:  17.25 in (50%)

Dr. Miller is not only Emma's doctor, but he also was Byron's doctor growing up (as well the doctor of all four of his siblings).  After the appointment, Byron wondered if Emma's been the smallest Morris he'd seen :p  Silly daddy!  :)

Sorry I don't have a picture to go along this post.  For some odd reason the camera has not been out lately.  Plus, I am extremely tired these days!  As soon as Emma began sleeping through the night my energy level dropped.  Crazy, I know...

Mama's helper (and 4 month checkup)

I love my little helper. Can't wait for her to actively help me in the kitchen one day. (And please disregard our giant pile of papers on the counter... it'll one day get sorted out, maybe sometime this week, right Honey? :p)

We had her four month check up last week and here are the numbers:

Weight: 15'10'' (90%)
Length: 24 3/4'' (75%)
Head: 16 1/2'' (75%)

October 21, 2011

Two months old.

This post is one week late. Last Friday was Emma's two month birthday. She is growing so fast! Even though she has been officially diagnosed as mild colic, she is a sweet, darling little girl. She sleeps like a big girl - down at 8 pm-ish and up at 8 am-ish with only two 5-10 min feedings during the night. Her longest stretch is usually 6 - 8 hours long!

Here are her doctor's checkup numbers:

weight: 12 lbs (80%)
length: 22 1/4 in (50%)
head: 15 1/8 in (50%)

Two week checkup

At the dinner table.
Emma gets fussy in the afternoon and evening.
I think it's because she knows her daddy is home and wants to be held by him, even if it's dinner time.

Emma had her two week checkup yesterday. I was really nervous leading up to it because by this doctor's visit they want to see that the baby is back to her birth weight. I had such trouble feeding her at first, and she lost so much weight her first few days of life, that I was really anxious about this. So here are the numbers:

At birth - August 21, 2011
Weight: 7 lbs 6 oz
Height: 20 in

Two days later - August 23, 2011
Weight: 6 lbs 9 oz, 13 oz less

Two week checkup - September 8, 2011
Weight: 8 lbs 2 oz, 25 oz more! (30%)
Height: 21 1/2 in (75%)
Head size: 14 in (30%)

Doctor said she is long a lean :) Just like her mommy and daddy where at that age.
