Yesterday we invited Roberta over for lunch to get us intruduced to breastfeeding. She is the mother of my dear childhood friend Shirin who just happens to also be an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
I invited Valerie to come join us. It was a great intruduction and I am looking forward to the much promised gift my mom has told me she is going to give me - The Art of Breastfeeding by the La Leche League.

You should have Byron join in your your lunch "classes." I think what was most helpful was when Mike would remind me (in the very beginning) that I should do something specific to make her latch on better. It can be frustrating in the very beginning... it's good to have the husband support. :) Olivia was pretty much a pro from the beginning but not everyone has the same experience. She had a little trouble (or it could have been me) latching on in the car or while we were out... eventually she was a champ!
That is an excellent book. It will be a great resource for you. I also found the local La Leche League monthy meetings to be great encouragememt, not only with breastfeeding but in general with the whole new baby adjustment. I would highly recommend seeing if there is a local group in your area and maybe even checking it out before baby comes. I did that and it was great to already be familiar with the leaders so that I didn't feel awkward calling when I had a question. I'm so excited for you guys!
