Their numbers

Both kids had their year doctor's well check-up visit last week.
They both did very well.  Emma more than Byron, since she has a two-year advantage in knowing Dr. Miller for a little longer.

So here are their numbers--

Emma (on 8/22/14):

Weight-- 33 lbs (73%)
Length 38 in (74%)
BMI:  16.1

Byron (on 8/22/14):

Weight:  22 lbs (35%)
Length:  30 in (54%)
Head size:  18.5 in (66%)

On Little Man...

Our Little Man is 9 months old.  And such a gift to us.

He began crawling for the first time last week.  Emma and I were at our Fancy Nancy birthday party when he took his first moves forward, while alone with Daddy.

I can't get over him crawling.  He is so fun.  I set him down on the floor, and he goes off exploring.  He crawls into the living room where he finds a ball or two.  Then crawls down into the dining room table or finds Big Sister.  I know it sounds terrible to say, but it's like I have a little doggie just moving about.  He seems to be, for the most part, a pretty independent little fella

His two bottom teeth are completely in.  And loves showing them off!  He is quite the giggler, and put him next to Big Sister, and maaan, he will laugh and squeal the entire time.

He is getting better about eating.  I finally discovered that as long as I mix some applesauce with it, he'll eat just about anything.  This week he ate some spaghetti with meat sauce one day, and lentil soup another day (both mixed with some applesauce).  He also loves a good ripe pear.  I will cut him up some slices in the morning, and he'll gladly feed himself some.

He also likes mozzarella cheese, toast (he will not eat non-toasted bread), cheerios, and veggie straws.

We are starting to teach him to use a sippy cup, and has been pretty good at it.  We normally just put a little water in it.  He likes to imitate Big Sister.

He now takes a bottle and will drink both breast milk and formula.  We don't do this too often, but at least he does take a bottle now!

I plan on beginning to wean him next month when he turns 10 months.  I keep going back and forth with this, since I did nurse Emma for the full 12 months.  But due to a few personal reasons (mostly selfish, but it is what it is), he will more than likely be drinking fully out of a bottle or sippy cup by 10.5 months.

At his nine-month doctor's visit, here are his numbers:

Weight:  19 lbs 13 oz (50%)
Length:  28 inches (25%)
Head size:  18 inches (75%)

6 months

Once again, better late than never--

Baby Byron's six-month Johnny Bear picture.

My handsome boy!

Six-month check-up numbers:
Weight:  17 lbs 10 oz (55%)
Length:  26 5/8 inches (50%)
Head size:  17.5 in (80%)

As you can tell, we make very average-size children (Emma is very average as well).

Byron's 4 month

Baby Byron is 4 months old!
We had a little difficulty getting a good picture of him this month.  A almost-crying snapshot will have to do.

Bunny needed a picture as well.

And let's not leave Emma out!
His numbers:
Head size:  16.5 inches 50%
Length:  25 inches 50%
Weight:  15 lbs 11 oz 50%

My question is:
How do two above-average parents make such average children?

Two week checkup

(No pictures to go along this post -- I need to be better about capturing my little man's moments.  Sorry!)

We had our 2-week checkup this morning and all is well.  Unlike his big sister, Little Byron only lost four ounces after birth before he began gaining weight again.  Here are his numbers:
At birth:
Weight:  7 lbs 1 oz
Length:  19.75 in

Two days later:
Weight:  6 lbs 13 oz

Two weeks later:
Weight:  8 lbs 13 oz -- two full pounds more!
Length:  20.5 in

How are we doing?  Good, not so good, but mostly really good, if that makes any sense.

LB is a sweet, sweet, patient boy.  I don't remember Emma being so chill.  I can put him down on the floor, and aside from some panting and grunting, he will just lay there, happy to watch his mommy and sister mess around.  He hardly every cries (yet!) and is an excellent eater.

BUT...
He is a night owl!  As in, stay-awake-for-several-hours-in-the-middle-of-the-night night owl.  This is really hard, because he can wake up at 2:30 am, for example, to nurse, but then won't fall back to sleep again until 6 am.  In the meantime, Byron and I take turns getting up to hold him.  As you can imagine, this is taking a toll on us.  But I am thankful for a helping hubby, and since LB is our second, we know this will not last forever (for the first one we had no idea what we were doing or what to expect).  So a little dose of perspective goes a long way.

In spite of the hard nights, we have been blessed with tremendous help!  My mom stayed with us for two weeks, which was a wonderful relief for me.  We have also started receiving meals from friends, and Memma has taken Emma with her for two mornings for me to have some rest time to recover from the previous night.

Byron and I are thankful for our growing family.  We lay in bed at night, smiling at each other, thanking the Lord for our two little ones, honored that He would entrust us with these little ones.
